They say that everything’s BIGGER in Texas, right? Well this past
weekend in Belton, TX that was for sure as Checkered Flag Productions
brought 6 of the biggest and wildest Monster Trucks to the Bell County
Expo Center! The trucks and drivers on hand were:
Monster Truck Line-up/Drivers |
Barbarian - Devin Jones
Monster
Corvette - Rob French
|
Bigfoot - Rodney Tweedy
RAMinator - Mark Hall
|
Bulletproof - Mark Foulk (Friday only)/Chris Powell (Saturday only)
Reptoid - Jim Jack |
Friday January 25
Friday night would start
off with the wheelie contest much like the rest of the year has on the CFP
Crew. Bar-none this was the BEST wheelie contest I have ever been apart of,
but yet it was also the EASIEST to determine who the winner was as Rob
French came out and hit the van stack with insane speed and sent that dragon
to its tail, ripping the cars apart and continued to walk the Twisted Dragon
Monster Corvette to the other end of the arena on his rear wheels, without
even touching the front end to the ground, only to hear the crowd going
nuts!
In Qualifying Rodney Tweedy
came out as the new kid on the block behind the Bigfoot machine and laid
down fast Qualifying time, beating RAMinator by a mere .01 of a second!
Bigfoot ran a 3.27, RAMinator a 3.28, followed by: Twisted Dragon: 3.41 /
Reptoid: 3.59 / Bullet Proof: 3.78 / and Barbarian: 3.85 seconds. Racing saw the three big
names of the night take their Round 1 wins, respectively: Bigfoot defeated
Barbarian, Monster Corvette defeated Reptoid, and RAMinator defeated
Bulletproof. The Semi-Finals saw Jim Jack come back as the Fast Loser from
Round 1, only to have to face off against Bigfoot who won that heat. Mark
Hall then put the Hemi to it in RAMinator to defeat Rob French in Monster
Corvette.
Those
who went down in Round 1 and the Semis faced off to see who walked away with
what points, seeing Bulletproof defeat Barbarian for 5th place,
and Monster Corvette beat out Reptoid for 3rd place. The Finals
were a good ‘ole brand war, with RAMinator taking the win over Bigfoot after
the anxious Rodney Tweedy jumped the light!
Next up
was some wild freestyle! The crowd was in excitement as after Racing and
the track was rearranged and even more van stacks were brought in for the
car pounding, tail gate ripping, wheelie popin’ Freestyle contest! Rob
French had a spectacular showing, walking away with a perfect 30 to win the
Friday night Freestyle competition, followed by RAMinator with a 28, Rodney
Tweedy in Bigfoot close behind in 3rd with a 27, local truck
Barbarian – 22 Bullet Proof with a 17, and finally Reptoid rounding out the
field with a 7 for the night.

Saturday January 26
Devin Jones came out with
Barbarian and lined up for the wheelie car and skied that big old Ford out
big time, then stood it up on the rear tires taking the wheelie win for
Saturday night with no problem!
In Qualifying Rob French
came out in Twisted Dragon the Monster Corvette fresh off of a Freestyle win
from the night before and set fast qualifying time of 2.93 seconds. Only 2
other trucks wound up running in the sub 3 second time range; RAMinator with
a 2.97 second pass and Bigfoot with a 2.99.
Round 1 of Racing saw
Monster Corvette defeat team truck Bulletproof, Bigfoot defeat Barbarian,
and RAMinator defeat Reptoid. The Semi-Finals saw Barbarian come back as
the Fast Loser from Round 1, only to be put on the trailer again, with
Monster Corvette and RAMinator moving onto the Finals. In the Final Round
RAMinator defeated Monster Corvette for the overall Racing win.
Now,
after last weekend’s show in Florence having a bread truck and making for
such awesome Freestyles, we knew we couldn’t just put a van stack out for
Freestyle so we made a DOUBLE Van stack! And it made for some HUGE air!
That made for the story of the night as Barbarian came out and got a slap
wheelie off of the stack and tripped over a dirt hill and put the big Ford
on its side for a perfect 30! After 5 trucks ran there was still one
left…MONSTER CORVETTE! Unfortunately Rob went to fire it up and hydro
locked the motor. While “Big” Ed Beckley and Mike Fonder kept the crowd
informed and entertained the crews of all other trucks were back in the pits
wrenching on Monster Corvette removing the plugs and wires to get the fuel
out of the cylinders, and within a few short minutes Rob came out flying
with some wild speed right off the bat, some INSANE reverse moves over the
big stack, and great momentum. But he was only able to score a 28 with the
judges despite his attempt! Barbarian was declared the clear winner with a
30, followed by RAMinator and Monster Corvette tying for 2nd with
a pair of 28s, then Bigfoot in 4th with a 23, Bulletproof with a
20, and Reptoid with an 18.

So
Belton went off and out with a BANG, sure to make some memories for
those who were there to witness it all first hand. But rest assured,
the CFP Crew will be back to do it all again in 2009!
