GRAND ISLAND, NJ
JANUARY 18-19, 2008
EVENT RESULTS

The Heartland Events Center in Grand Island, Nebraska marked a few firsts for the CFP Crew and the Monster Truck Winter Nationals tour.  This would mark the CFP Crew’s first time in the building itself, which is a gorgeous (and fairly spacious) venue to host a Monster Truck race in.  Not only that, but the Monster Trucks (because of the floor size in the Heartland Events Center) raced on a roundy-round, Chicago style course for the FIRST TIME EVER in Monster Truck Winter Nationals history!  The track saw 2 jumps in each direction/lane.

Monster Truck Line-up/Drivers

Bearfoot - Don King

Dream Catcher - Drew Haygood

Bigfoot - Jerry Dalton

Monster Corvette - Rob French

Bulletproof - Mark Foulk

Shell Camino - Shelley Kujat

Friday January 18

Rookie Jerry Dalton was back on the CFP tour in Bigfoot, and became the fast qualifier for the night.  For him and some of the other competitors it was their first time ever driving on a turning course, so the night’s action would be interesting!

Driver of Monster Corvette, Rob French (who is usually a wild man) was way out of his element because his rear steering would NOT self center itself, making it very difficult (and nearly impossible) for him to navigate the turning course in enough time to win races.  Rob French finished a disappointing 5th in Racing tonight.  Unfortunately Rob’s teammate was also having issues throughout the night, dealing with intermittent fuel problems in Bulletproof.  The Finals came down to Bigfoot and Shell Camino, with Jerry Dalton taking the win in Bigfoot.  Shelley Kujat had a very strong night, finishing as runner up in Racing.

Freestyle had cars, a van, and the giant FMX hill (built with 2 stacked dumpsters inside!) to play on.  Don King, who is usually a strong Freestyler would have to sit out Freestyle for the night with camshaft problems from the night’s Racing portion.  Rob French worked with what he had in Freestyle and took the win, beating out all the big air everyone was grabbing throughout the night.

Saturday January 19

Once again Jerry Dalton lit the competition on fire by setting the fast qualifying time in Bigfoot, followed by none other than Rob French in the Monster Corvette Twisted Dragon truck who had worked out all of the rear steer issues and was running at 100%.

The Racing action was hot again, but the order was rearranged as Rob French was on a tear in Monster Corvette.  Jerry Dalton made it to the Finals for the second night in a row, but this time the tables were turned as Rob French lit the track on fire, putting Jerry Dalton into the 2nd place spot for Racing, with Rob taking the win in his custom Chevy.

In Freestyle nearly everyone, including Bigfoot and Monster Corvette, hit the giant FMX hill center track for some air, much to the delight of the fans.  The real news came about when Jerry Dalton rolled Bigfoot yet AGAIN, just like he did in Topeka, KS for the season opener…trying to do a donut!  Bigfoot came to a rest on the crush cars.  POOR JERRY!  He’s now 0 for 2 in Donuts, and still looking for a successful one!
